Statement on New CMS ACCESS Model from Mark McClellan and Christina Silcox
Earlier this week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its Advancing Chronic Care with Effective, Scalable Solutions (ACCESS) Model, a 10-year voluntary model that aims to improve the health of people with chronic disease and covered by Traditional Medicare, through technology-supported care.
“Medicare’s new ACCESS model represents a key step forward in turning new digital and AI capabilities into potentially transformational patient benefits, in terms of access, quality, affordability, and empowerment. While ACCESS focuses on people covered by Traditional Medicare, the infrastructure and learnings from this new model also could facilitate much broader expansion across our health care system. We commend the CMS team for their thoughtful and timely policy work to connect technological possibilities to paying for what Americans really want—improved access, better outcomes, and lower costs. At Duke-Margolis, we look forward to helping patients, clinicians, health care organizations, and policymakers realize these urgently needed benefits.”
