Tanya Sachdev

Tanya Sachdev, Class of 2028, is an undergraduate from Cary, NC, majoring in Global Health and Biology, with a focus on health equity and refugee communities. At Duke, she studies how structural factors such as housing, language access, and insurance gaps shape health outcomes through coursework in health policy and the Human Rights Certificate program. Through Duke’s Global Health Student Research Training (SRT), Tanya has researched the long-term impacts of Medicaid expansion in rural communities. She also serves as a patient navigator and medical assistant at Lincoln Community Health Center and Samaritan Health Center in Durham, supporting refugee families in navigating insurance and clinical care.Tanya is the founder of DREAM@Duke, a program that connects Duke students with refugee high schoolers navigating college and career pathways. Outside of her work, she plays club field hockey, coaches youth field hockey, and enjoys running. In the future, she plans to pursue a MD/MPH and hopes to combine clinical practice with health policy advocacy for underserved communities.
