Value in Health Care Initiative

Overview

The American Heart Association and the Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy have established an groundbreaking new collaboration called the Value in Healthcare Initiative that aims to transform cardiovascular care.

The Initiative will leverage the strengths of each organization to increase access and affordability while eliminating barriers to necessary care.  Together, the two organizations will model and test solutions in cardiovascular care and treatment, document impact and results, and develop a framework for system-wide reform that supports an equitable and affordable system of care. This bold alliance aims to bring enterprise-wide solutions and leadership to the urgent issues facing patients.

As the nation’s oldest voluntary organization devoted to building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke, the American Heart Association has a unique role in amplifying the patients’ voice. Duke-Margolis is a preeminent thought leader focused on redesigning the healthcare delivery system to better drive health and value of care in support of patients and has significant experience on payment reforms for care delivery and medical products. The organizations are uniquely positioned to put the patient voice at the forefront and define value through legal, regulatory and policy barriers while translating research into practical policy options. The American Heart Association and Duke-Margolis will collaborate on this initiative to identify key barriers and obstacles in the current system and develop disruptive solutions for models of care.
