Aneesh Karuppur

Aneesh is a sophomore pursuing a BSE in biomedical engineering, with a secondary focus in economics and the innovation and entrepreneurship certificate. He is interested in how new innovations, specifically in the medical technology space, interact with societal structures like product markets, healthcare systems, regulatory bodies, and governments. He is excited about topics related to intellectual property and medical device manufacturer strategy. He is excited to meet notable scholars, attorneys, and practitioners in those fields through the program, and hope their perspectives will add nuance to my own specific interests in medical technology. At Duke, Aneesh performs research in the ECE department, play for the Marching/Pep Band and Symphony Orchestra, am on the Moot Court team, and am part of E-Nable (3D printed prosthetics). This summer, through the Huang Fellows program, Aneesh will be researching Self-referral and anti-kickback statutes exist at both the federal and the state level and serve to prohibit certain types of financial arrangements among parties in the health care system.
