Degree

Class of 2025

Catherine Xiang is a sophomore student from Plainsboro, New Jersey hoping to major in Biology and Global Health. Through nonprofit work and volunteering within her local community, Catherine developed an interest in exploring reproductive health and maternal/child health disparities through a holistic approach that addresses policy, cultural differences, and social/structural determinants. As an aspiring physician, Catherine hopes to further explore gender health disparities at the intersection of medicine and health policy, researching diseases that disproportionately impact young girls and women in low-resource communities. Outside of the classroom, Catherine enjoys playing tennis, writing for Duke’s science journal Vertices, and getting involved in menstrual equity through Progress Period. This summer, through the Huang Fellows program, Catherine explored health policy research in global health.
