Erin Van Gessel, ABSN '24

Erin is a candidate in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at Duke University’s School of Nursing. Previously, she earned her BA in Political Science from Middlebury College. She brings a background working on corporate governance issues in New York City and health care public policy campaigns in Washington, DC. She is passionate about improving health education, access, and quality – particularly in rural communities – and advocates for more investment in community health workers, wraparound health services, and technology such as artificial intelligence to help provide preventative care. In addition to her work as a Margolis Scholar, Erin participates in Bass Connections research and advocacy on reproductive health care access, as well as participating in a rural, mobile health clinic as a Mobile Prevention and Care Team (M-PACT) scholar.
