Joseph Kannarkat

Joseph is a medical student at the University of Maryland who aims to work in both the clinical and health policy realms. He has a broad interest in health policy, but has recently gained an interest in payment reform and frugal innovation. In terms of medical specialty, he is unsure of what wants to pursue and hopes to decide during his clinical rotations. He previously received his MPhil in Public Policy at the University Cambridge with the Kanders Churchill Scholarship. During this time, he was able to learn more about the provision of care in the National Health Service and the innovations in health coverage in Kenya. These experiences have shaped his interest in both the operational and policy aspects of medicine in a global context. He received his BS in Economics and Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. He credits his education in economics for his interest in financial aspects of health.
