Sarah Barnes

Sarah is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill from Pinehurst, North Carolina. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. At UNC she works as a research assistant and phlebotomist under Dr. Muscatell in the Social Neuroscience and Health Lab. This experience has helped develop her interest in using psychology to reduce negative health outcomes in underrepresented populations. This summer, Sarah is working with Dr. Steven Patierno and his team to examine the potential impact of Medicaid expansion on cancer care and cancer disparities in North Carolina. She hopes to learn more about how research informs health care policy and walk away with the tools to integrate this knowledge in a graduate school program following graduation.
