Devan Desai is a senior at Duke University from Durham, North Carolina. He is majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Biology and Chemistry. At Duke, Devan serves as President Pro Tempore in the Duke Student Government, Chair of the Duke Honor Council, Head Tour Guide, and an undergraduate teaching assistant. He has also contributed to a variety of research projects ranging from COVID contact tracing policies to technology policy. As a Margolis Scholar, Devan hopes to expand his health policy experience through engagement with the Margolis Center and his position as a Co-Chair of Health Policy Education with the Student Collaborative on Health Policy. Ultimately, Devan hopes to earn an MD and work at the intersection of healthcare and policy to improve patient care and treatment outcomes with a specific interest in pediatric and orthopedic issues. As a Margolis Intern in 2021, Devan researched guideline congruent care for spine disorders. Through the Margolis Scholars Program, Devan is eager to develop skills that are directly applicable to a career in health policy while also exploring Duke's vast resources in this field. He is looking forward to gaining mentorship, research experience, and a network of Scholars.
